Multifaceted functions of class III semaphorins in the regulation of systemic metabolism. Sema3E recruits inflammatory macrophages into white adipose tissues via Plexin-D1 and promotes obesity. Sema3G promotes adipogenesis not only in the adipose tissue but also in the liver. In addition to metabolic regulation in the peripheral tissues, class III semaphorins regulate the development of hypothalamic melanocortin circuits, which are essential for systemic energy homeostasis
