QCN significantly elevated survival and axonal regeneration of motoneurons and enhanced functional recovery after spinal root avulsion/reimplantation in rats. The neuroprotective effects of QCN might be attributed to the inhibition of neuroinflammatory response and oxidative stress, partially via activating neurotrophins, such as NGF and BDNF, and modulating the Akt and MAPK signaling pathways
