For immunohistochemistry, 20-µm tissue sections were taken at the level of the striatum (bottom left) and the hippocampus (bottom right) at the indicated bregma levels. Regions of interest that were analyzed are marked in different colors according to the legend (top left). For western blot and real-time PCR analyses, 160-µm-thick tissue sections were prepared from the striatal level, and the total ipsilateral hemisphere of these sections was used for protein and RNA isolation (bottom middle).
