The schematic diagram of Aβ accumulation during acute colitis. Acute colitis induces weight loss, shortening of the colon and upregulation of inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-6). Neutrophils, especially immature neutrophils, increase in the blood from AppNL-G-F mice. The increase in neutrophils in the brain following an increase in the blood is associated with acute colitis-induced Aβ accumulation via increased MMP-9 activity in the brain
